About LMCC

Rooted in Tradition. Committed to Community. Focused on the Future.

The Little Milligan Community Center is more than just a building—it is centered at the heart of Little Milligan, Hampton, Fish Springs, Elk Mills, and Butler.

Once home to Little Milligan Elementary School, this space has served generations of families, fostering education, connection, and community. Today, it stands as a place where neighbors come together to support one another, preserve traditions, and build a stronger future.

Get to Know Us

For over half a century, Little Milligan Elementary School was a pillar of our community, providing not only education but also a space for families and friends to gather and create lasting memories.

When the school closed at the end of the 2024 school year, many feared that an essential part of our community’s identity would be lost.

Then, on September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene struck, devastating our region. In the wake of the disaster, local leaders and residents recognized the urgent need for a centralized community resource. Carmen Campbell and Cindy Collins, along with many dedicated community collaborators, spearheaded the effort to transform the school into a fully functional community center. With support from Carter County’s local government, the doors reopened—not as a school, but as a hub of hope, resilience, and service.

We believe in the power of community to embrace who they are, define their future, and change the world.

My involvement in the community center started a couple of days after the hurricane. I stopped by to see what I could help with. JR asked me if I could run a skid steer. I told him I would figure it out. What did he need? He told me they needed help getting all of the pallets into the gym. Dan had been assisting with this, but had to run out of town for a bit. I was just stepping in to help in his absence.

He also said he wanted Dorothy and I to come to church over there the following Sunday and I told him that I would. Then he said after that get with Carmen, she would have plenty of work for me.

He was correct.

After meeting everyone and seeing how dedicated they were to the community, I felt like this was a great place to give back.

I have so much enjoyed meeting everyone and interacting with our local community.

We are so lucky to be surrounded by such a tight-knit community that reaches out to help one another. I feel lucky just to be part of it.

Ashley White - Board Member

My daughter came to Little Milligan Elementary for 2 years in preschool. When they closed the school our hearts were shattered, I wanted her to be able to come here for many more years. So being involved here and continue means that I can help people in thes area.

I always wanted to work at Little Milligan, but it wasn't ever the right timing. I'm thankful to be part of this team of wonderful people. I cannot wait of wonderful people. I cannot wait to see where this goes.
